The Blanks started in 1986 with Marty J and me (Guitars), Kathy (from previous bands Libido and Rocker's Moon) (Keyboards) and Keith (Drums).  No bass player on the 1st gig, so Marty J and I switched off on bass.  Steve (Bass) was added after that.  In 1987, Keith left and was replaced by Bill until both Bill and Steve left.  The 3rd version of The Blanks had Kevin (Bass) and Jeff (Drums).  When Bruce (Bass) replaced Kevin, the bands' name was changed to Back Alley.
